Free Crochet Glasses Case Pattern: Step by Step Instructions
You will start by crocheting a foundation chain and then will work around the chain in continuous rounds so there will be no need to sew the bottom of the case together.
This pattern is using the mixed loop single crochet stitch. This is a very simple technique using a standard single crochet stitch worked in front loop and then back loop in turns. This creates a beautiful uniform texture and pattern.
Written pattern
FCH:
Chain 17 or customise as per the size guide at the top of this page
R1:
– SC in back bump of each chain across starting from 2nd CH from the hook (Pic 1)
– then work on the opposite side of the chain and INC in first CH ST (Pic 2 & 3)
– SC in next 6 CH STs
– INC in next CH ST (we need an odd number of stitches in a round for this pattern to work, which is why we are increasing here)
– SC in next 7 CH STs
– INC in last CH ST {35} (Pic 4)
R2:
– BLO SC in first ST of R1:
- insert hook into the back loop of the 1st ST stitch of R1
- yarn over and pull through the stitch, you will have 2 loops left on the hook
- yarn over again and pull through 2 loops on the hook
- mark the stitch you have just created with a stitch marker
– FLO SC in next ST:
- insert your hook into the front loop of the next stitch
- yarn over and pull through the stitch, you will have 2 loops left on the hook
- yarn over again and pull through 2 loops on the hook
– continue to SC in each ST in the round taking turns between BLO and FLO
– your last SC in R2 should be worked into BLO {35}
– don’t worry if your work is twisting at this stage, this is normal and your work will flatten out as you crochet along

R3:
– FLO SC in first ST of R2
– BLO SC in next ST
– continue to SC in each ST of the round taking turns between FLO and BLO
– your last ST in this round should be worked into FLO {35}
R4 – R28:
– continue to SC in each stitch in the round taking turns between BLO and FLO {35}
– if the last stitch in a round was worked into BLO, then you will start the next round with FLO and vice versa
R29:
– you will now crochet the edging at the top (which will be a round of slip stitches) and the button loop:
– SL ST into 28 STs
– chain 11, you may need to chain more or less depending on the size of the button you are using
– SL ST into the ST at the base of the chain (Pic 5 & 6)
– I recommend you test if your button fits into the loop before you continue with the next step
– SL ST into next 7 STs {35}
– but if you SL ST into another 2 STs you will achieve a nicer finish when fastening off
Join the round with invisible fasten off:
– watch this step by step video tutorial on How to crochet an invisible fasten off
– cut the yarn off and pull it out of the loop
– thread your tapestry needle with the yarn tail, skip one stitch and pull the needle through the next stitch
– insert the needle back into the stitch you came from but insert it from the top into the centre of the stitch
– pull on the yarn a bit and then weave the yarn tail in
And all there is left to do is to sew the button on and you are done! ๐
