Yarn Requirements

Crochet Heart Keychain Pattern – Step by Step Instructions
Construction
- Crochet the heart in a continuous round, do not slip stitch at the end of each round. Instead continue to crochet the next round in the next stitch.
- You will be using the single crochet stitch (SC), single crochet increase (INC) and invisible single crochet decrease (INV DEC).
- Crochet 2 separate circles that will form the top of the heart first; join these two circles together and continue to crochet the bottom part of the heart.
- I recommend using a longer piece of string as a running stitch marker so you can easily refer back to the previous rounds if needed. Either way, a stitch marker is a must when working in continuous rounds.
How to Achieve the Shape of the Heart
To achieve the heart shape, you will first crochet 2 separate circles (cups) that will form the top of the heart first. Then you will join these two circles together and continue to crochet the bottom of the heart.
Pattern #1: 2.5mm = B/1 hook and Sport weight yarn (4ply #2)
Crochet two separate circles (cups) using the bellow pattern – R1 to R5:
R1: MR – 6 x SC into the ring {6} – watch this step by step video tutorial on How to crochet a magic ring
R2: INC in each ST around {12}
R3: (SC in next ST, INC) x 6 {18}
R4-R5 (2 rounds): SC in each ST around {18}
First circle (cup) – FO after R5 and cut the yarn leaving a long tail for sewing (make sure you leave a long tail so you can use it to attach the bead and the keychain); insert a stitch marker into the first stitch of R5 (Pic 1)
Second circle (cup) – don’t FO, don’t cut the yarn off; insert a stitch marker into ST10 of R5 (Pic 2); leave your hook in and join the two circles together as per the instructions in R6 below
R6 – continue from where you finished with R5 in the second circle:
- SC in next 9 STs in the second circle
- insert your hook into the first circle – into the stitch with the stitch marker in it – and SC (Pic 3)
- SC in next 17 STs in the first circle
- insert your hook back into the second circle – into the stitch with the stitch marker in it – and SC (Pic 4)
- SC in next 8 STs {36}
- you have now joined the two circles together and will continue to crochet the heart in a continuous round – you will have a yarn tail left on the inside of the heart. Pull that yarn tail out through the gap in between the circles as you will use it to sew up the gap at a later stage.
R7: SC in each ST around {36}
R8: SC in next 2 STs, INV DEC, (SC in next 4 STs, INV DEC) x 5, SC in next 2 STs {30} – watch this step by step video tutorial on How to crochet an invisible decrease
R9: SC in each ST around {30}
R10: (SC in next 3 STs, INV DEC) x 6 {24} (Pic 5)
You can now start stuffing the heart and continue to stuff gradually as you crochet along
R11: SC in each ST around {24}
R12: SC in next ST, INV DEC, (SC in next 2 STs, INV DEC) x 5, SC in next ST {18}
R13: SC in each ST around {18}
R14: (SC in next ST, INV DEC) x 6 {12}

- close the gap with a few stitches and do not weave the yarn tail in or cut it off as you will need it to attach the bead and the keychain

- close the gap with a few stitches and do not weave the yarn tail in or cut it off as you will need it to attach the bead and the keychain
How to Attach the Keychain to Your Amigurumi Heart
- thread your yarn needle with the tail you have left after sewing up the gap in between the two circles at the top of the heart
- pull the needle through the wooden bead (if using one) and then through the last chain on the keychain
- then go back through the bead again and insert the needle into the heart underneath the bead
- repeat the above steps 3 times to make sure the keychain is attached securely
- you can then weave the yarn tail in and cut it off
How to Attach the Tassel to Your Crochet Heart
- cut 8 strands of yarn about 10″ (25cm) long; use more strands of yarn for a thicker tassel
- thread your yarn needle with the tail you have left after closing the bottom of the heart
- pull the needle through the wooden bead
- grab the 8 strands of yarn, fold them in half and pull the needle through the loop
- then go back through the bead again and insert the needle into the heart just above the bead
- repeat the above steps 3 times while pulling on the yarn tail tight
- you can then weave the yarn tail in and cut it off
- tie a knot with the strands of yarn just below the bead and pull each strand really tight one by one to tighten the knot
- and finally cut the tassel to the desired length
